Do Something Good!

It’s Your Community. AmeriCorps is your chance to make it better. Hands On Atlanta’s AmeriCorps programs are an excellent opportunity to make a big difference in your life and in the lives of those around you. It’s a chance to apply your skills toward helping others and meeting critical needs in the community.

Each year, Hands On Atlanta offers AmeriCorps members opportunities to serve through a network of community partnerships. Whether your service makes a community better or gives individual support to a child, you’ll make a difference through AmeriCorps!

AmeriCorps members address critical needs in the metro Atlanta community. As an AmeriCorps member, you can:

  • Tutor and mentor youth
  • Fight illiteracy
  • Teach computer skills
  • Manage or operate after-school programs
  • Help communities better respond to the neighborhoods they serve
  • Build organizational capacity

As an AmeriCorps member, you’ll gain new skills and experiences—and you’ll also find the tremendous satisfaction that comes from helping others. Some AmeriCorps members may also receive a modest living allowance during their term of service.

Hands On Atlanta offers two types of AmeriCorps Programs.

  • School Based AmeriCorps
  • Citizen Action AmeriCorps

School Based AmeriCorps

As a Hands On Atlanta School-Based AmeriCorps member, you will be given the opportunity to work in elementary and middle schools. You and your team of two to seven members will be committed to community service by supporting the public school system and the individual student by engaging families, teachers, community members and corporations in the education process.

Citizen Action AmeriCorps

Hands On Atlanta’s Citizen Action AmeriCorps program aims to remedy the causes and consequences of poverty within Atlanta’s poorest neighborhoods through the civic engagement of residents and nonresidents as volunteers to implement resident-driven solutions. The program is a multi-year partnership between Hands On Atlanta and community-based nonprofit organizations during which AmeriCorps members facilitate the efforts of residents/constituents to envision and implement solutions to the challenges facing their communities.
