Citizen Academy Learning Tracks:
Ideas and Conversations
Take the next step in serving your community. Learn how to
bring about change by getting involved in advocacy, activism
and the political process. Expert volunteer faculty ranging
from political operatives to grassroots leaders show
you how.
Issues In Action
Do you want to be informed about a specific issue affecting
our community? Try Issues in Action, a service learning program
of Citizen Academy. You'll be part of a group of 15-20
volunteers examining a specific community issue (such as
homelessness/meal service, seniors, children and youth,
AIDS support, etc.) through discussions, group and individual
service projects and leadership training over a five-week
period.
Citizen Academy Film Series
This film series features the stories of ordinary citizens
working to improve social conditions for themselves and for
their communities. After viewing each film, join in a
conversation about the implications for improving our
own community.
Transcending Borders
Learn about social issues around the world and how they
affect us locally. Join conversations about overcoming
real or perceived barriers to intercultural understanding,
from religion to foreign policy.
Skill Building
Improving our communities sometimes takes more than passion.
Skill-building courses complement the other learning tracks
by empowering individuals with how-to information and
support. Train to become a volunteer leader in Hands On
Atlanta's programs. Or, learn skills such as grant writing
and volunteer management to start and support your
own program.
Citizen Academy also offers Social Entrepreneur Awards
throughout the year to offer financial and logistical
support to citizens developing innovative programs to
effect change in our communities.
