Read with the Gr8’S!
The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Dwight Howard and his foundation are partnering with Hands On Atlanta to launch a literacy initiative for Atlanta area schools and announced the call for volunteers as part of the 2017 Martin Luther King Day commemoration. Dwight is creating a literacy team of volunteers, with help from Hands On Atlanta and the Atlanta Speech School, to read to underserved youth throughout the months of February, March and May. He’s inviting Atlanta adults, subject to screening and training by Hands On Atlanta, to join his "Read with the Gr8s" team supporting young readers in Atlanta. In just one reading session each month at a local school, adult volunteers will help young readers “Be Gr8!” and explore literacy through books which address the social studies and science topics they’re learning about in school. In addition to training and support from Hands On Atlanta, volunteers will receive a “Read with the Gr8s” shirt, free dining opportunities from Arby's, tickets for an upcoming Hawks game, a chance to meet Dwight and receive his personal thanks!
