“Harlem’s Mart 125: The American Dream”

Harlem’s Mart 125: The American Dream is a documentary film about the history of Mart 125 and how it correlates to the “revitalization” of 125th street. Harlem’s main commercial sector. This film takes its viewers on a historical journey which depicts the economic transition of 125th street from the late 1960’s to present day. Mart 125 is used as a metaphor which examines the plague of perplexities that surround this unique black community and its relationship with the plans of urban renewal from a commercial stand point. Harlem’s Mart 125: the American Dream portrays a microcosmic analysis of the displacement of Black American communities today. This is a story that takes an introspective look at the changing face of the most well known African-American neighborhood and a complexity of issues that surround this community in peril.

From Barbados to Carolina explores the connections between colonial South Carolina and the island of Barbados in the British West Indies. It presents a detailed look at the heritage and culture of both early Charleston plantation owners and African slaves of Barbadian ancestry.

Art on the BeltLine would love your help in a variety of ways! We have special volunteer positions that offer our artists direct and on-going support.In order to effectively support our artists

and the project, we have divided the trail into eight sections and

encourage you and your neighbors to get involved along the BeltLine

where it runs through your community (in one or multiple adjoining

The eight sections are as follows: 

* Lena Street south to I-20 on the west side

* I-20 to Gordon White Park on the west side

* Gordon White Park to Lee Street on the west side

* 10th / Monroe south to the Ponce de Leon Avenue bridge on the east side

* Ponce de Leon Avenue bridge south to the Freedom Park bridge on the east side

* Freedom Park bridge south to Lake Avenue / Irwin Street on the east side

* Lake Avenue / Irwin Street south to DeKalb Avenue on the east side

* Wylie Street to Memorial Drive on the east side

On-going volunteer support is needed for the following positions:

Artists’ Liaisons:

We

are looking for one Artists’ Liaisons per segment who will serve as

team leaders responsible for being the point of contact for volunteers

within that segment, to include clean-ups and installation support. Artists’

Liaisons will help communicate information from our Installation

Manager to artists and volunteers, as well as relay any issues within

their section to the Installation Manager for support. Artists’

Liaisons will be needed on an on-going basis from mid-April through the

last weekend in June; intermittently throughout the summer; again in

October for deinstallation. We have filled our Artists’ Liaisons positions with the exception of one section on the west side – please email volunteerart@beltline.org for more details!

Artists Support / Installation Crews:

Once

the master schedule of artists’ installations is established, we will

determine the specific times and locations where volunteers will be

needed to be on-hand to help install works of art. Installation volunteers will be needed in May and again in October for de-installation. Installation volunteers could also participate in site clearing during preparations and security walks throughout the event.

Performance support:

Volunteers

dedicated to stage construction and tear-down / clean-up; would bring

necessities to performers and musicians who remain in one location for

an extended period of time

Security / check-ups:

A

small group of volunteers who walk sections of the corridor once every

week or two in order to check for damage, vandalism, trash dumping, etc. Volunteers would also check the status of the temporary history signs to see if any need to be replaced. Volunteers needed from the end of May through the end of October.

Stage Manager:

One

volunteer dedicated to the performance and musical acts happening on

one stage; keep performers informed of audience coming in; liaison

between performers and technical crew; possibly run between performers

to keep things in sequence (in the case that there are performers along

a path where timing is a factor). We anticipate having a few stages. Stage events will take place during weekends in June.

Map / Program / Poster Distributors:

A

group of volunteers who can hang up posters in (willing) local

businesses as well as distribute the maps and programs for the event Volunteers would check back periodically to make sure there are still enough maps and that the poster is still hanging up Volunteers

needed in May for the big push to get information out and then

throughout June to October to replenish maps and programs.

History signage:

Volunteers would be needed on May 15th and 22nd to help install numerous temporary history signs along the path

Information tables / ushers:

We

will potentially have information tables manned by one or two “ushers”

at significant access point during peak hours on weekends in June, when

performances are going on. These volunteers would have a table and

chair with the Art on the BeltLine maps and programs and can help

answer visitors’ questions, can direct people to performance events,

help coordinate parking, assist with communication between audience and

performers, etc.

BeltLine walks:

We would love to have several volunteers willing to be trained to conduct regular BeltLine walks. A schedule would be determined so volunteers would rotate the weekends they hosted walks.

Box Office Volunteers Needed! AtlanTIX, discount ticket service, seeks one to two volunteers to work at the AtlanTIX ticket booth. AtlanTIX sells discount tickets to theatre, music, dance and cultural attractions. This opportunity would involve customer service, selling tickets, some data entry and reporting to the ticket services manager. This is a long term commitment. Volunteers will be rewarded with an enjoyable work environment and occaisional complimentary tickets to area performances.

Marketing Volunteer Needed! The Atlanta Coalition of Performing Arts seeks a volunteer to assist staff members in putting together a marketing plan to promote AtlanTIX, discount ticket service.

Volunteer Graphic Designer Needed! Atlanta Coalition of Performing Arts seeks volunteer graphic designers to assist in creating promotional materials for both ACPA and the AtlanTIX, discount ticket program. Examples of materials to be designed: rack cards and web logos.

· Help organize marketing resources

· Coordinate a new marketing plan (critical)

· Assist with website updates and proofreading

The desired volunteer should have prior marketing experience preferably with non-profit organizations and come with plenty of ideas!

CPA/Accountant – Needed to help with improvements in current processes as well as provide expertise in implementing new processes for PushPush Theater. Preferred experience with non-profit and/or arts organizations with a budget of $500k or under. We are currently using quickbooks and tracking spreadsheets but are open to whatever tools your comfortable with. CPA assistance is needed for:

· Cashflow forecasting

· Accounting system efficiencies consultation

· Financial reports

· Business sustainability model

· Monthly and yearly budgeting

Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age with adult supervision. Volunteers wishing to serve regularly with Wilderness Works must complete an orientation and criminal background check.

Available shifts: 11am -2:30pm and 2pm - 5:30pm
