On Saturday, June 16, 2012, ServiceJuris and Hands On Atlanta hosted the 13th annual ServiceJuris Day, a community service day in which more than 300 members of Atlanta’s legal community gather together to make a difference in our city. The commitment of the steering committee resulted in nearly $38,000 of in-kind donations, volunteer labor and projects completed to help CHRIS Kids, a local organization whose mission is to heal children, strengthen families, and build community. Volunteers worked to transform the CHRIS Kids facilities by adding fresh and vibrant paint colors, new picnic tables and benches, enhancing the gardens and painting inspirational pictures and quotes in residential apartments.
Over its 13-year history, more than 5,000 volunteers have contributed more than 20,000 hours of service – enriching the learning environments for nearly 4,500 public school students, renovating 10 neighborhood parks and enabling more than 9,000 people to utilize their community centers.
Some highlights of the impact of ServiceJuris Day 2012 include:
- Installed 369 plants
- Created 156 pieces of orginal artwork
- Engaged 10 kids and community members in legal workshops
