CHARITY MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH: COMMUNITY GARDEN WORKDAY

Saturday, November 9 From 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM (Decatur)

Partners in Action for Healthy Living's mission is to empower South DeKalb residents to make healthy choices that support their best quality of life. They empower and educate individuals through gardening and urban agriculture, connecting people to the land, to their food and most importantly, to each other. Charity Missionary Baptist Church maintains a Pantry Garden for the South DeKalb Community. Volunteers will fill garden beds with soil, garden clean-up, planting, chicken coop maintenance, etc.

WEST ATLANTA WATERSHED ALLIANCE 2ND SERVICE SATURDAYS

Saturday, November 9 From 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM (NW Atlanta)

This program facilitated by the West Atlanta Watershed Alliance and made possible by a grant from USDA Forest Service for our Atlanta Children’s Forest Network, provides the opportunity for youth 10 years and older to participate in meaningful activities encouraging conservation, stewardship and experiential learning on the second Saturday of every month (excluding January and July). Volunteer tasks include: Trail building and maintenance, Invasive Plant Eradication, Habitat Restoration and other activities needed to manage the facility and grounds of this unique urban resource!

NEW LIFE COMMUNITY CENTER ANNUAL THANKSGIVING FOOD BOX GIVE-A-WAY

Saturday, November 16 From 7:00 AM - 1:00 PM (Decatur)

The mission of New Life Community Ministries is to extend the practical Love of Jesus, through transformational programs that restore hope, revive dignity and raise the quality of life for our global community. Their services are designed to help you get back on your feet to become self-sustaining and lead a thriving life. The annual Thanksgiving event is in need of volunteers, your support will make a huge impact in the lives of those in need.  Volunteers will be lifting and carrying heavy boxes of groceries, as well as standing and walking through the whole shift. Looking for volunteers for the following areas: Line Control, Intake for Applications, Turkey Baggers, Data Entry, Car Ambassadors & Greeters.

Discovery Program at Belmont hills Elementary

Saturday, November 16 From 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM (Smyrna)

The Hands On Atlanta Discovery program is a volunteer-led Saturday tutoring and enrichment program. The two-hour session occurs twice a month from 10am to 12pm. The program reinforces weekday learning through academic assistance, educational games, field trips, service-learning projects, and other enrichment activities. Students are engaged in a variety of subjects depending on the needs of their particular schools. Our goal is to have a one-on-one volunteer to student ratio, allowing for individualized attention and the building of relationships between students and volunteers.

FOOD FOREST GROW AND LEARN

Saturday, November 9 From 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM (NW Atlanta)

The Urban Food Forest at Browns Mill team is a member of the AgLanta Grows-A-Lot program. This site will become Atlanta's first Community Urban Food Forest, as well as a new model for a City of Atlanta park. The food forest will produce a wide variety of fresh, flavorful, and healthy nuts, fruits, vegetables, herbs, and mushrooms, which will become available for public consumption. Located in an area identified as a food desert, the site was a working farm as recently as 2000. Volunteers will help with building the soil, weeding, planting, watering, harvesting and site beautification projects.
