Our Meals 4 Kids program aims to provide food to metro Atlanta families facing high levels of food insecurity. We focus on supporting families on the weekends or during extended breaks when schools and local community centers are closed.

HOW IT WORKS

Hands On Atlanta volunteers assemble bags filled with ready-to-eat meals and snack foods that don’t require refrigeration, such as instant oatmeal, fruit cups, canned meats, juice/milk boxes to distribute to students at local elementary and/or middle schools. Before the assembly events occur, volunteers attend an orientation to learn more about the school receiving the meal pack and logistical instructions.

Meals 4 Kids serves students who qualify for free/reduced lunch, and most recipients also participate in Hands On Atlanta’s school-based programs as well. Meals 4 Kids also provides a meaningful volunteer and employee engagement opportunity. This powerful service activity orients participants to the factors impacting children’s educational outcomes and the ways they can continue volunteering through Hands On Atlanta in order to make a difference.
