About the Speaker
Dr. Vicki Crawford is the director of the Martin Luther King Jr. Collection at Morehouse College and general editor of the Morehouse College King Collection Series on Civil and Human Rights. She is a co editor of Women in the Civil Rights Movement: Trailblazers and Torchbearers, 1941-1965 and the author of numerous scholarly articles.

Dr. Lewis Baldwin, Professor Emeritus of Religious Studies at Vanderbilt University, Dr. Laura Soltis, Executive Director of Freedom University, Dr. Robyn Henderson-Espinoza, Founder of Activist Theology Project, and Lauren Tate Baeza, Director of Exhibitions at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. King Week Holiday March & Rally
The March is held on Auburn Avenue from Peachtree Street to Jackson Street. The Rally is held on Auburn Avenue. The areas of concern are education, technology, medical, investment, transportation, housing, environmental justice, job creation, conflict resolution, interfaith, cultural exchange, peace, justice and voter registration.

Atlanta Beltline "Pop-Up" STEAM Kit Build
If you find yourself out and about on the Atlanta Beltline Eastside trail on MLK Day, swing by the Atlanta Beltline Center and build a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) kit for students in Hands On Atlanta partner Atlanta Public Schools. Stay for a few minutes or a few hours and help out! There’s no advance registration needed.
Voter Education Interactive Demo & Voter Registration
As the official living memorial to the life, leadership and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., The King Center supports free and fair elections for all United States citizens. The King Center, under the leadership of CEO Dr. Bernice A. King and in partnership with the Georgia Office of the Secretary of State and Secretary Brad Raffensperger, will host a Voter Education Exhibit. Voter registration will also be available onsite.

MLK Day Drum Run 5k
Gathering the diverse groups in our beloved community to celebrate Martin Luther King Day in the spirit of sisterhood and brotherhood with fellowship and fitness.
This 5K walk/run will take place entirely in Piedmont Park (START & FINISH AT 10TH near Park Tavern.) The USATF certified race course and Peachtree Road Race qualifier will be run through the Park. We will have a 3.1 mile drumline all along the race course. This 5K will have a vibe like no race ever run. The party starts at 8am, race promptly at 9:00am.
Not only will there be a post race party including music and events centered around the celebration of MLK Day, but there will also be a 5K Drumline along the race course. About one drummer every 50 meters will give the race a unique vibe that will transform the 3.1 miles into fast parade. Just think…drummers will keep the beat as you streak through the Park!!

Hands On Atlanta Signature Sunday Supper | The Women’s Era: From Suffrage to #TimesUp
The Hands On Atlanta MLK Day Sunday Supper, powered by Coca-Cola, will take place on Sunday, January 19 from 5:30-8:00pm at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. Get ready for an engaging evening, where leaders across ATL come together to participate in a dinner conversation about race and social justice.
In partnership with The King Center, Civic Dinners, Morehouse College, and the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, this year’s theme is women’s rights and voting rights, as 2020 is an election year and the centennial of the 19th amendment. The dinner will provide a platform for guests to have an open and authentic discussion, with a table conversation powered by Civic Dinners and feature entertainment by the Atlanta Music Project, and include some of Atlanta's most accomplished women leaders. The conversations that you will have and the people you meet will inspire change. And together, we can create solutions to bridge the racial and gender divide.

Volunteer with Discovery
The Hands On Atlanta Discovery program is a volunteer-led Saturday tutoring and enrichment program. The two-hour session occurs twice a month from 10am to 12pm. The program reinforces weekday learning through academic assistance, educational games, field trips, service-learning projects, and other enrichment activities. Students are engaged in a variety of subjects depending on the needs of their particular schools.
For the King holiday, there will be 7 sites to volunteer with!
Celebrate Difference | Students with King
Celebrate Difference provides an opportunity for middle school students of various ethnicities, cultures and economic backgrounds to engage in dialogue with Dr. Bernice A. King, to explore the impact Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. had on the Civil Rights Movement and to learn about his global influence on nonviolence. Additionally, students will examine Dr. King’s philosophy and methodology of nonviolence (Nonviolence365®) as a way to address real life issues such as bullying.

Kick Off Reception & Dream Forward Awards Presentation 2020
The Kick-Off Reception serves as the opening event for the 2020 King Holiday Observance and is an invitation to the public to join us in honoring the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This event will culminate with the Dream Forward Community Service Awards presented in the following categories: Faith-Based Leadership, Environmental Responsibility, Elected Officials, Media, International Affairs and Social Justice.
This is a free event and all are invited to this gathering and celebration of the 2020 King Holiday Observance.
